This National Historic Site is a Museum and houses the National Office of the Federated Women's Institutes of Canada. Birthplace and childhood home of Adelaide Hunter Hoodless, "one of the most famous Canadian women", Adelaide achieved national recognition in her twenty years of public life as a public speaker, activist and author. She is credited as a Co-founder of the Women's Institutes, the YWCA, the National Council of Women, the Victorian Order of Nurses in Canada and the major force behind the formation of 3 major faculties of Domestic Science. She was a woman ahead of her time and a mentor to other women and their families. Her childhood home was a place of learning and a gathering place for family and friends … just as it is today.
