ACWW World President Magdie de Hock hosted a virtual tea on Friday, January 29th, 2021.
Session 1 was held at 1:30 am ET (Ottawa/New York) time and Session 2 was held at 9:30 am ET (Ottawa/New York) time, allowing everyone from across the world a chance to participate in the event.
Magdie welcomed everyone to the virtual tea and offered a recipe for the Milk Tart that she had prepared earlier in the day. She spoke on the effects of the Coronavirus and encouraged everyone to follow safety precautions, extending her sympathies to those that have lost family and friends this past year. In light of COVID-19 restrictions, a notice of a Special World Conference 2021 was given in addition to the mailings that were received by members. This Conference will convene via digital video conference on Saturday, April 17 2021. Queen Azizi had graciously agreed to postpone an in-person meeting to be held in May, 2023. For more details, please visit www.acww.org.uk/sw2021.html.
On March 18, 2021 the UN Committee will be speaking in a digital forum on the Status of Women. They are currently looking for speakers. More details will be available on the website in the near future.
On closing, Magdie asked that we take a moment to focus and reflect on being thankful for ACWW for giving a voice to women and children who would not have a voice of their own.
