Endorsing their stand on broadcasting in Canada

RESOLVED that FWIC ask the Department of National Health and Welfare to take steps to continue the payment of Family Allowance to students beyond the age of sixteen attending High School.
RESOLVED that FWIC urge an immediate revision of the Immigration Act , to provide a selective immigration policy which would ensure that the immigrant be a desirable future citizen of Canada, with skills necessary to fill certain economic needs and opportunities; and Further RESOLVED that the Immigration Act be revised to ensure fair deportation practices and the elimination of racial discrimination.
RESOLVED that FWIC take action in support of a Federal Investigation into the price of drugs.
RESOLVED that FWIC explore the possibilities of encouraging companies using this method of merchandizing to indicate those articles manufactured in Canada in their catalogues
RESOLVED that the grounds for which divorce can be granted in Canada be extended to include cruelty, incurable insanity (5 years) and desertion.
RESOLVED that FWIC request the Government to investigate steps to discourage the practice of selling articles marked as “Souvenirs of Canada” which are frequently made in countries outside of Canada.
RESOLVED that FWIC request the Water Resources Commission and the Department of National Health and Welfare, to introduce legislation to prohibit the sale of mineral based detergents and prevent this menace from further contaminating the water supplies of Canada, and endangering the health of our citizens.
RESOLVED that FWIC endorse the recommendation of the Agricultural Committee of the National Technical and Vocational Training and Advisory Council, that an additional and separate program be added to the technical and vocational training agreements to provide solely for training in agriculture; and Further RESOLVED that FWIC bring to the attention of members the need for the highest possible education standards for farm people and for an adequate guidance program for rural youth ...
RESOLVED that FWIC request the Departments of Education and Agriculture in each province to give serious consideration to investigating needs educationally of those engaged in agriculture, with a view to providing a progressive program in re-training.
RESOLVED that FWIC recommend to the Directors of Extension in the Department of Agriculture in each of the provinces, that all phases of business management, including record keeping. budgeting, cost analysis and related subjects be incorporated in all 4-H Club programs as a special project.
RESOLVED that FWIC request that the Federal Government give consideration to the establishment of a co-ordinating office to work through the Departments of Education in each of the Provinces, with the objective of establishing better communication and understanding between those who develop the curriculum for each Province.
RESOLVED that FWIC request the Prime Minister, the Minister of Justice , the Minister of Health that the Criminal Code of Canada be amended to legalize abortion on grounds that would include criminal assaults and the health, both physical and mental of the mother, and when carried out by a recognized Medical Practitioner, under the authority of a Medical Committee duly constituted and when carried out in a duly accredited place.
RESOLVED that FWIC ask the Federal Government to refrain from making any agreements that will bind our country to changing the courses of rivers in Canada, and to building a system of canals for the purpose of diverting Canadian waters to the detriment of Canada.
RESOLVED that FWIC make an appeal to the Government: to examine fully the plight of the deserted wife and family and the role of the Family Courts in relation to them, with a view to strengthening the courts through a larger budget and staff, so that they can cope adequately with this and other problems; to institute effective measures to enforce maintenance by husbands of their deserted wives & children. Cont'd...To establish co-operation with other provincial governments to provide quick and effective means of enforcement in cases where the husbands move to different provinces from that in which they deserted their families.
RESOLVED that victims of criminal violence and/or their dependents be compensated for their losses from a fund set up by the Federal Government under the Criminal Code, and that judges be empowered to make payments from this fund to the said victims and/or their dependents.
RESOLVED that each Provincial and Territorial Unit where legislation to implement this is not in force, be urged to have its government pass legislation to make the obtaining of pre-marital health certificates compulsory, and that FWIC make representation to the Federal Government to have similar legislation, effective Dominion-wide passed.
RESOLVED that FWIC request the Federal Government to have the Criminal Code, Chapter 51, Section 150, amended to make the advertisement, sale and use of contraceptives legal.
RESOLVED that each Province petition its Department of Health and that FWIC petition the Federal Government to the effect that both Governments co-operate in setting up such Family Centres across Canada.
RESOLVED that FWIC urge the Government of Canada to give serious consideration to ensuring that the programs will be available to communities, which while not isolated, are far enough from broadcasting centres that reception is limited to one channel, since these areas are desirous of this service and their need for it is great, if not greater, than those living in metropolitan or more generally populated areas.
RESOLVED that FWIC urge the Minister of Finance to give consideration to replacing the present $1,000 exemption with an exemption of $2,000 for the individual tax payer.
FWIC request that more women be appointed to the new Canadian Radio-Television Commission.
FWIC are opposed to any curtailment of Health Services to Indians and Eskimos and urgently request that if the Federal Government must introduce austerity measures in the Canadian economy that it not be done at the expense of the health of our native peoples.
